Abstract P1703
Cephalosporins are commonly used in the management of skin and soft tissue infections. Among the currently available oral cephalosporins, cefdinir has been shown to be the most active against the commonly encountered bacterial pathogens, methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Based on pivotal trials, cefdinir has been utilized in a dosage regimen of 300 mg twice daily for 10 days. Preliminary evidence has suggested that once-daily dosing and/or shorter courses of therapy is effective for staphylococcal folliculitis. In this poster, results from treatment of skin and soft tissue infections with oral cefdinir will be reported, including an analysis of daily dosing regimens and treatment duration.
A status report on oral antibiotic therapy in the management of cutaneous infections will also be included.
